Sarah Hammond Cooley, 88, formerly of Simpsonville, widow of William Aiken Cooley, died Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at Laurens County Hospital. Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Henry N. and Minnie Traynham Hammond. Mrs. Cooley was the retired Vice President of Bill Cooley Auto Sales and Service, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Simpsonville. She was a life member in the South Carolina P.T.A. and local and life member of the Presbytery. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. and Joyce Cooley of Kansas City, MO.; a sister, Mildred Hammond Faber of Simpsonville; two brothers, Bud Hammond of Simpsonville and James A. Hammond of Roswell, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Lou Ann Cooley of Simpsonville; eight grandchildren, William Aiken "Ken" Cooley, II, James Cooley, Brandy Warren, Leeanne Cooley, Jill Arrowwood, Ginger Martin, Mandy Shelton, and Chad Johnson; and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Bill Cooley; and a sister, Cozette Sheffield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Simpsonville, 106 Church Street, Simpsonville, SC 29681. Visitation will be held Friday, August 11, 2006 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 12, 2006 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church, Simpsonville. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
