Sarah Blanche Nesbitt Davis, 92, of 108 Casa Loma Drive, Taylors, died Friday, April 18, 2003, at National Health Care Nursing Home in Mauldin, S.C. Mrs. Davis was born in Laurens, S.C., and was the daughter of the late James Harvey Nesbitt and Elizabeth Burns Nesbitt. She was educated at Parker High School in Greenville, S.C., Millsaps College in Mississippi, and the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. She was employed as religious education director at Monaghan Baptist Church when she married the Rev. Burton de Wolfe Davis, of Laceyville, Pa., in March 1938. In April the couple sailed for Brazil, South America, and became involved in the work of the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board until retirement in 1975. In Brazil, she was a founding member of the Santos Dumont College, the Baptist Hospital and the Ceara Baptist State Convention, serving at various times as treasurer, hospital auxiliary president, organizer and founder of the Alberta Steward Baptist Camp, Principal of the Baptist Elementary School, English teacher and Domestic Arts teacher in the High School department of the College. She was chairman of the all Brazil finance committee of the International Mission Board of the SBC. Also she was the auditor for the Equatorial Baptist Mission Board, and served as organist of the First Baptist Church of Fortaleza where her husband was pastor for 25 years. She was with her husband when they were honored with honorary Citizenship for their contribution in religion, health care and education. Upon retirement in Taylors, S.C., she was active in the WMU and member of the Taylors First Baptist Church. As a member of the Mobile Medical Mission she served as treasurer and accompanied 12 medical trips with local medical personnel to Brazil as translator. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Burton de Wolfe Davis of Taylors, her two sons, the Rev. Derrick Stanford de Wolfe Davis and his wife, Dr. Jean Knight Davis of Raleigh, N.C., and the Rev Eric R. Davis and his wife, the Rev. Janet M. Davis; and two grandsons Eric Justin Davis and Jason Ryan Davis. She is also survived by a niece, Mrs. Gail Nesbitt of Berea. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, at 11 a.m. at Taylors First Baptist Church, Taylors, S.C. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. The family is at the home of the Rev Eric R. and Janet Davis, 108 Casa Loma Dr., Taylors, S.C.
