DAVIS, Sam A. 94, of Tampa passed away Sept. 18, 2011. He was retired from the U.S. Navy serving during WWII and the Korean conflict. He earned several medals including the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism after piloting the first successful Pacific Ocean rescue at night. Sam was also retired from the Florida State Forest Service and consulted on legal cases for many years afterward. As a longtime member of the Tampa North Rotary Club, Sam was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow and a tireless contributor to the Dorothy Thomas School in Tampa. As a Gideon, he is responsible for spreading hundreds of bibles over multiple decades. As an Eagle Scout, he continued to serve as a Scoutmaster and ultimately received the Silver Beaver Award. He is survived by his grandson, Jonathan Spencer and wife Julie from Duluth, GA and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 3-5 pm Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 at the funeral home, 1602 W. Waters Ave. Funeral services will be 11 am Monday, Sept. 26, 2011 at Seminole Heights Baptist Church, 801 E. Hillsborough Ave., Tampa, FL with interment at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests in Memory of Sam Davis contributions be made to Tampa North Rotary Club, P.O.
