Sister Mary HughesCullmanFuneral for Sister Mary Hughes, 90, of Cullman will be Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Sacred Heart Monastery with Father Kevin McGrath officiating and Cullman Heritage Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Monastery Cemetery. A Vespers service will be Tuesday at 5 p.m. with visitation to follow at Sacred Heart Monastery.Sister Mary, who died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, was born March 9, 1922, in Cullman to Dr. Joseph W. Hughes and Willie Pearl Ann Hughes. She was a retired teacher and the founder of Daystar Home for abused and homeless women. Survivors include one sister, Ann Hughes Barron of Decatur; one brother, Dr. Jack Hughes of Auburn; and a host of nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to Sacred Heart Monastery Building Fund.
