AUGUSTA, Ga. - SFC (Ret.) Jerry Kent Davis made his eternal transition on Thursday 7 April 2011, surrounded by loving family members and dedicated friends in faith. Burial services will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Guests will also be received at the residence 2606 Audusson Court, Augusta. SFC Davis proudly entered the U.S. Army at age 17 and retired at Ft. Gordon, GA in November 1980 after 21 years of active service. SFC Davis served primarily in the field of communication-electronics. SFC Davis completed five (5) tours in Vietnam, earning the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. During his military career, he also earned the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal. Although raised in rural farmland, SFC Davis preferred the artistry of housework, while he enabled Mrs. Davis to pursue her passion of vegetable gardening and the culture of ornamental plants. As a member of the Soka Gakkai International, SFC Davis generously offered his time and resources to support Buddhist youth activities to expand the flourishing of peace, culture, and education. SFC Davis is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mrs. Ok Kim Park Davis, grandson Justin Davis of Kennesaw, GA; granddaughter Sheena Davis and daughter-in-law Sung Shim Park Davis of Lawrenceville, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Belinda Davis of Richmond, MO; his sons Song Hak Davis, formerly of Augusta, and Song Sak Davis. He will also be warmly remembered by his neighbors of Audusson Court, Golden Stage Pioneers, the members of Hiwatha District of SGI-USA, Jenny Barbour Tuckett, and his close friends, the Pell Family. The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, 706.798.8886 is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Friends may sign the online guest register at www.poteetfuneralhomes.com.
