WATERVLIET - Ruth V. Carey Smith, 79, died Thursday, March 4, 2004 at Albany Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Albany on November 3, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Mary Anderson Carey. She was the wife of the late William T. Smith who died in November of 1996. Mrs. Smith was raised and educated in North Albany and following her marriage became a resident of Watervliet where she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Menands Senior Citizens and was a communicant of St. Brigid's Church in Watervliet. Ruth enjoyed sewing and knitting for her family. Time spent with her family was her favorite pastime. She is the beloved mother of William T. (Christine) Smith, Jr. of Menands, Susan M. (Earl E.) Keefer of Watervliet and Peter J. (Laura M.) Smith of Clifton Park; sister of William Carey of Albany and the late Mildred McCann and Edward Carey; grandmother of Christopher (Erin) Smith, Carey (Tim) Piche', Kenneth (Ann) Keefer, Kelly Keefer, Kathy (George) Brizzell, Jr., Andrew, Stephen and Holly Smith; great-grandmother of Katie, Colin and Maggie Smith, Kenneth Keefer, Jr. and Angela Keefer. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Brigid's Church in Watervliet. Interment will follow in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.
