Todd, RuthRuth (Brennan) Todd, formerly of Bridgeport, CT, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on July 12, 2014, at Pine Heights Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation, after a long period of declining health. The daughter of the late Thomas Brennan and Elizabeth (Wagner) Brennan, Ruth was born, along with her twin sister, Edna, on September 18, 1920, in Bridgeport, CT.On November 29, 1937, she married Walter E. Todd, of Bridgeport, CT, who predeceased her on September 23, 1981, after 43 years of marriage.Ruth leaves her daughter, Virginia (Todd) Nygard and husband, Walter, of Port St. Lucie, FL, and daughter Susan (Todd) Murray, of Brattleboro, VT. She is also survived by her grandson, Todd Murray of Brattleboro, VT, and grandson Shaun Murray and wife, Laura, and two great-grandchildren, Jack Murray and Joshua Murray of Lorton, VA. She leaves an extended family of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was predeceased by her son-in-law, Bruce Murray, and 11 brothers and sisters. She was the last person remaining of her family's generation.Ruth lived with her daughter, Susan, in Brattleboro for the past three years, attended the adult day program at The Gathering Place which she so enjoyed and then was admitted to Pine Heights Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation to receive wonderful care during the past 2 ½ months. Ruth was raised and educated in Bridgeport, CT. She was an honor student in high school, yet felt an obligation to leave high school after completing two years, to help her mother and family at home following the death of her father during the Great Depression era. After her marriage, Ruth and her husband took care of many family members in their home, especially aging parents and the return of several brothers and a brother-in law and wife from WWII.During her children's school years, Ruth worked full-time outside the home to ensure her daughters the opportunity to have the college education that had once been a dream of her own. In all her work experiences, Ruth was an exceptional employee, and her excellent work performance was commended by the City Trust Bank president. Ruth retired from the Trust Department of the bank and worked temporary placements until hired full-time at Pitney Bowes. When Ruth was 86, her work career came to a close when her employer moved operations from the area where she lived.Ruth served well, whether it was her family, church, place of employment, or those in need. Faith in Christ sustained her throughout her life, along with worship and fellowship at church. She was a member of Olivet Congregational Church, Bridgeport, CT, most of her life. More recently, she became a member of Community Bible Chapel in Brattleboro. A service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held at the home of her daughter in Brattleboro on Sunday, July 27th, at 12:00 pm.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth's memory to The Gathering Place, 30 Terrace Street, Brattleboro, VT 05301.
