Private services will be held for former township resident Ruth Stevens Carter. Mrs. Carter died Nov. 21. Born in Newark, Mrs. Carter was raised in the township. She graduated from Millburn High School and attended Kent State University in Ohio and Rutgers-Newark. Mrs. Carter was a librarian at the Millburn Free Public Library and later worked in a real estate office in South Orange before retiring. She was a member of Community Congregational Church in Short Hills. Mrs. Carter is survived by a daughter, Anne Carter Henoch of Cranford; a son, Douglas of Danville, Vt.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
