Ruth W. Smith 1922 - 2014CASCO - Ruth W. Smith, 92, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at the Casco Inn Residential Care Center in Casco.She was born in Dexter on Oct. 23, 1922, the daughter of Eldridge and Nettie (Pierce) Wallace. Ruth graduated as Valedictorian from Williams High School in Oakland, and graduated from Nasson College in Springvale.In addition to working throughout her married life on the family farm, Ruth was employed as head cook for the Garand Street School in Winslow for 10 years.She was an active, longtime member of the Winslow Grange. Ruth had been involved in many Grange activities and met her husband at the Cascade Grange in Oakland.  She enjoyed many get togethers, over the years, with fellow classmates of Nasson College. She also was a 4-H club leader for a number of years while her children were growing up. She was happiest when spending time with her family.Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Sydney H. Smith; and a brother Eldridge P. Wallace. Surviving are her son, Thomas Smith and wife Constance of Portland, a daughter, Ellen Levesque and husband George of Jay; grandchildren, Gregory, Heather and Scott Smith of Portland, Kurt Smith of Peabody, Mass., Gary Levesque of Winslow, Jared Levesque of Portland, and Richard Levesque of Raleigh, NC; and 10 great-grandchildrenA graveside service will be held at the Lake View Cemetery in Oakland in the spring.
