CAMARILLO, Calif. -- Ruth Smith, 82, passed away at her home in Camarillo following a long illness.Ruth was born July 18, 1921 in Muskogee, Okla. and was a resident of the Camarillo area for the past 56 years, coming here from Missouri in 1947 when she married Marion Smith. Though divorced, they remained close friends and loving parents.Ruth was a teacher with the Pleasant Valley School District for 28 years as a reading specialist and retired in 1983. She was a member of the California Retired Teachers Association and the Unitarian Church of Ventura. Ruth was actively involved with Project Concern for Circulo De Amigas, and her sewing projects in Nicaragua. She was also passionately involved in working toward global peace.Ruth is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Doug Kilburn of Manchester, Vt.; sons and daughters-in-law Anthony and Valerie Smith of Pollack Pines, Calif., Jordan and Rose Smith of West Pawlet, Vt.; grandchildren: Tiffany Smith of Santa Barbara, Taylor and Carson Smith, both of West Pawlet, Hailey and Kindsay Smith, both of Pollack Pines; Ruth was preceded in death by her son Timothy in 1987.In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Project Concern for Circulo De Amigan, 3550 Afton Road, San Diego, CA 92123 or your local Hospice Organization.A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ruth will be 3 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2003 at the Unitarian Church of Ventura, 4949 Foothill Road, Ventura.Assisting the family with funeral arrangements is Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary, 1075 E.
