Ruth Smith, born in 1916, daughter of Emma-Johnson and Arthur, died on February 14, 2015.
Ruth McChesney Smith NEWTOWN, PA Ruth McChesney Smith, 99, formerly of Princeton and Freehold, NJ, died on Feb. 14, 2015, at Pennswood Village in Newtown, PA. Ruth was born Jan. 6, 1916, in Bound Brook, NJ, to Emma Johnson McChesney and Arthur McChesney. Shortly after Ruth's birth, she and her family moved to Freehold, NJ. Upon graduation from Freehold High School, Ruth attended Rider College and Duke University, Class of 1938. Ruth resided in the Lawrenceville/Princeton area for 65 years. She was very active in her four children's activities and was a member of the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church. Until her late 80's, Ruth was playing tennis in various Princeton senior citizens leagues. Ruth was employed by Educational Testing Service in Princeton and retired from there after many years of employment. She and her fellow co-workers and friends were active bridge players, and every year they would rent a house in Loveladies to play bridge and enjoy the shore. Ruth was predeceased by her husbands, Russell Edmonds, David VanDoren, and Craig Smith. Her oldest son, Arthur Edmonds, died in 1958 in an auto accident at age 18. Survivors include Russell S. Edmonds Jr. (Karen) of Allenwood, NJ, Nancy Schroeder of Spring Lake Heights, NJ, Bruce Edmonds (Virginia) of Freehold, NJ, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
