Ruth Sparks Smith, age 96, widow of Donald Brooks (D.B.) Smith, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005. She was born in Commerce, Ga., and was a daughter of the late Howell C. and Mary Baugh Sparks. She was a former employee of Belk's Department Store, and was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church since 1935. Surviving are a grandson and his wife, Robert B. and Susan H. Smith of Clinton; and stepgrandchildren, Leigh Bragg of Columbia and A.J. Bragg of Clinton. She was predeceased by a son, Phillip Brooks Smith. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at 2 p.m. in Broad Street United Methodist Church, with entombment in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Columbia. The family will greet friends at their home, 104 Young Drive, Clinton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church, 310 N. Broad St., Clinton, SC 29325. Gray Funeral Home of Clinton is serving the family.
