Ruth Elise Branyon Smith, 81, of 114 Duke St., widow of Harold Smith, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.She was born in Anderson County, the daughter of the late Clyde and Rosa Smith Branyon.Mrs. Smith was a retired accountant with J.P. Stevens Co. with 37 years of service. She was a member of Pendleton United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Mary Whitten Circle, the Council of Stewards, the Wesley Sunday School class, where she served as treasurer, the Young at Heart Group, and the Supper Club.Surviving are her daughter, Shelba Dorman, of Laurens; her son-in-law, Ben Dorman, of Laurens; her granddaughter, Angela Black, of Daniel Island, Charleston; her grandson, Todd Black, of Alpharetta, Ga.; four sisters, Edna Brock, of Pendleton, Sylvene Jones, of Columbia, Pauline Mullinax, of Anderson, and Kathryne Branyon, of Honea Path; and a brother, Charles Branyon, of Greenville. She was preceded in death by a sister, Estelle Gambrell; and by a brother, Edrew Branyon.Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pendleton United Methodist Church, conducted by Dr. Lloyd E. White. Burial will be at the church cemetery. The body is at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, and will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The family will receive friends in the Church Social Hall from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. The family will be at their respective homes.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ruth Smith Scholarship Fund, c/o Pendleton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 646, Pendleton, SC 29670.Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, in charge of arrangements.
