SCOTT _ Ruth Ruth Scott passed away peacefully at the age of 87, at the Innisfail Health Centre on January 26, 2005. Ruth was born to William and Elizabeth Brent in Toronto on December 12, 1917. She graduated from Bishop Strachan Private School and went on to the University of Toronto while working summers at the Bell. During World War II, Mum joined the Royal Canadian Navy and after her honourable discharge she finished her masters degree in Sociology. On September 24, 1949, Mum married John G. Scott (Jack) and they lived in Saskatoon where their two sons were born. They moved to Calgary in 1955 where they spent most of their lives. Mum was very active in volunteer work. She was involved with the YWCA and was president during construction of the building on Third Avenue. She later became involved with the Confederation Park Seniors Association. During her career she worked at Big Sisters and later Alberta Mental Health as a social worker. Mum was very talented and had a great love for crafts, particularly china painting as well as being an enthusiastic bridge player. In her retirement she was very devoted to family, helping whenever she was called upon. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Jack, her brother Barry and sister Betty. She is survived by her sons, Brent (MaryAnn), Geoff; and her grandchildren, Beth and Preston. She shared a very special bond with her great-granddaughter Chloe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 - 14 Street S.W., Calgary) on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
