Obituary of Ruth-Schmoll Moore

Ruth Schmoll Moore, 85, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on December 25, 2013, in Somers Point, NJ. Ruth was one of five children born March 14th, 1928 to the late William C. Schmoll and Marget Olsen in Woodbury Heights, NJ. Ruth will forever live in our hearts and will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 55 years, George H. Moore, of Marmora, NJ; her son, Daniel Moore, daughter-in-law, Debbie and grandchildren, Jeffrey and Trevor of Leesburg, VA. Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Randall Moore, in 1993. Ruth graduated from Woodbury High School in 1945. After graduation, Ruth held positions as an administrative assistant at the Gloucester County Courthouse, Ace Motors, Bell Telephone and Mobil Oil Corporation. Ruth was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and married the love of her life, George Moore, on May 30, 1958 in her hometown of Woodbury Heights. Ruth was a dedicated homemaker who, for nearly thirty years, served as the full time manager of all administrative and accounting functions in the family business, George H. Moore Roofing Company. In 1968, Ruth turned her love of travel into a tour and travel business, The Leisure Guide Service, which she co-owned and operated with her sister-in-law, Mary Louise Adams. Devoted to her faith, Ruth spent the first 58 years of her life as a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Woodbury Heights. When she and George retired and moved to the Jersey shore in 1986, Ruth became a member of St. Peters United Methodist Church of Ocean City. Guided by her faith in God, Ruth valued community service throughout her life. She was a dedicated volunteer at The Shore Memorial Thrift shop and, for more than 20 years, the Wesley Manor Nursing Home. Ruth will always be remembered as a generous and kind-hearted person who went out of her way to help others in need, whether it was an invite home after church for Sunday dinner, a ride to the doctor or simply a friendly visit to let someone know she was thinking of them. Her passions included church, travel, spending time with family, enjoying the boardwalk and the shore, cooking, entertaining and, of course, tending to her cherished and always beautiful backyard gardens. She loved board games with her grandchildren and bridge with her friends. Ruth was an active member of The Acorn Garden Club in Upper Township and treasured her many loving friends in the Best of Life Seniors Group in Marmora. Ruth is survived by her husband George; son Daniel Moore (Debbie); siblings Charles Schmoll (Betty Lou) of Bothell, WA; Doris Alexander (Richard) of Stuart, FL; grandsons, Jeffrey and Trevor Moore and a host of loving relatives, nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her sister, Grace Noddin, and brother Morris Emery Schmoll. A Memorial Service celebrating Ruth's life will be held Saturday, March 15th, 2014 at St. Peters United Methodist Church at 501 East 8th Street, Ocean City, NJ; Family will greet relatives and friends at 10:00 a.m. The Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon immediately following at the church. Ruth's loving generosity will continue to improve the lives of others. It was her desire to donate her body to science and help further the study of medicine at the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. Her final resting place will be the Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Peters United Methodist Church, Ocean City, NJ 08226.
