Obituary of Ruth-Owen Brooks


Funeral for Ruth Owen Brooks, 95, of Decatur will be today, Feb. 28, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy VanLandingham and the Rev. Keith Pope officiating. Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Brooks died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at Decatur HealthCare & Rehabilitation. She was born Sept. 22, 1908, in Morgan County to Richard Emmett Owen and Nora Goodson Owen. She was retired from Huntsville Arsenal Golf Course and Point Mallard Golf Course where she worked at The 19th Hole Coffee Shop. She was a member of Ninth Street United Methodist Church. Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Brooks. Survivors include one daughter, Hazel Brooks Ward and husband Loyd of Decatur; one granddaughter, Penny Ward Wilson and husband Aaron of Double Springs; two great-grandchildren, Michael Ward of Decatur and Stacey Wilson of Rome, Ga.; one great-great-grandson, Logan Ward of Decatur; one sister, Wilda Hendrix and husband W.A. of Logan Martin Lake; one brother, James Roan Owen of West Point; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Michael Ward, Aaron Wilson, Ray Owen, W.A. Hendrix, Jeff Owen, Ray Owen and James Dwight Owen.
