Ruth Melton Pierce age 89 died Sunday evening October 12 2003 at the Chester County Healthcare. Mrs. Pierce was born and reared near the Cabo Community in Chester County daughter of the late James John and Minnie Jan Newsome Melton. She attended schools in Chester County and in 1934 was married to William Howard Pierce of Chester County. They made their home in Chester County near Henderson where Mr. Pierce traded mules and farmed. He died in 1965. Mrs. Pierce continued to live near Henderson and worked for the Chester County School System in the food department for ten years retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ. She is survived by a daughter Peggy Siler and a son Ken Pierce both of Henderson; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She also has a brother Joe Melton of Chattanooga and three sisters Florence Ward of Finger Rachel Lott of Kingsport and Gerald Brock of Knoxville. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. today from the Chapel of Casey Funeral Home with Ben Flatt officiating and burial will follow at the Unity Cemetery near Jacks Creek.
