Funeral for Ruth McDowra Brooks, 85, of Pinson will be Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, at noon at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville. Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 at the funeral home.Mrs. Brooks died Sunday morning, Oct. 22, 2006. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a beloved “Granmom.” She was a member of Valley East Baptist Church. Her parents, Helen and Birt McDowra of Decatur, six sisters, two brothers, her son-in-law, Vernon Herron, and a great-granddaughter, Molly Kate, preceded her in death.Survivors include her husband of 65 years, five months and three weeks, Earl Brooks; two sons, Jerry (Anita) Brooks, of Trussville, and Dennis (Donna) Brooks, of Birmingham; two daughters, Patsy (Joe) Lacey, of Pinson, and Susan Herron of Huntsville; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; two sisters, Annie Belle McAlister of Huntsville, and Charles (George) Mills, of Decatur; and many loving nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Scott Brooks, Jason Brooks, Kevin Brooks, J.R. Herring, Keeker Smith and Randall Pelham.
