Wood, Ruth Mary LEESBURG, Fla. Ruth Mary (Finlay) Wood, 84, of Leesburg, Fla., beloved wife of the late Leroy H. Wood, passed away peacefully Friday, September 14, 2007 at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, Fla. after a brief illness. Born in Brainard, N.Y. on November 4, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James and Anna Finlay. It was on June 20, 1942 that she was joined in marriage to the late Leroy H. Wood. The two shared a loving union of almost 30 years prior to his passing in 1973. Ruth and her husband enjoyed spending summers at their camp on Saranac Lake and winters at their home in the Florida Keys while residing primarily in Brainard, N.Y. Ruth enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing and traveling with her husband. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. After her husband passed, Ruth enjoyed vacationing with her daughter Carol, her sister Peggy and her niece Kathy. She eventually made Florida her permanant home. Ruth was a lifelong member of the Brainard United Methodist Church and UMW. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her family and friends. Ruth is survived by her only child, daughter Carol (Wood) Markowitz (Edwin); her three grandchildren, Scott Putnam (Sharon), Janine Putnam-Jerominek (Michael), Todd Putnam and her four cherished great-granddaughters, Madison Jerominek, Mikayla Jerominek, Sierra Putnam and Sydney Putnam. Ruth had seven brothers and sisters, Frances Weaver (John), Margaret Meizinger (Joseph), Thomas Finlay - deceased (Evelyn), Anna Roach (Jacob), William Finlay (Celia), Walter Finlay (Joan), Richard Finlay (Sheila) and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Brainard United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brainard United Methodist Church.
