Chapel funeral services honoring the life of Mrs. Ruth Lee Smith, 81, Southside, will be at 3 today. Mrs. Smith passed away Oct. 7, 2009. Dr. Craig Carlisle and the Rev. Larry Fuhrman will officiate with burial to follow at Forrest Cemetery. Services entrusted to the care of Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services. Mrs. Smith was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and her late husband were former owners of Canoe Creek Marina in Ashville. She was also a lifelong member of 12th Street Baptist Church and a member of Gleaners Sunday School class. Some of her hobbies included traveling and spending time with her friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Smith; and her parents, Thomas Hubert and Flora Jordan Lee. Mrs. Smith is leaving behind to cherish her memory her son, Rick (Sylvia) Smith, Southside; daughter, Teresa (John) Croyle, Rainbow City; grandchildren, Summer Smith, Reagan (John David) Phillips, Jill (Michael) Chapman, Brodie (Kelli) Croyle; great-grandchildren, Cade Phillips and Will Phillips; and special friends, Carolyn Wrenn, Sue Glenn and Johnnie Edwards. Brodie Croyle, John David Phillips, Michael Chapman, Ron Cox, David Nolen and Charles Nichols will serve as pallbearers. The family wishes to express special thanks to Drs. Cross, Lowe, Parmar and their staffs. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Twelfth Street Baptist Church or Big Oak Ranch. The family will be accepting friends at Collier-Butler Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until time of service today.
