Ruth Keenum Anderson, age 91, died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at her residence in Florence. Ruth was the guiding light behind Andersons Bookland until she reluctantly retired at age 85. She was an exceptional mom, an active member of Edgemont United Methodist Church, and a loving friend to so many.Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Greenview Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow in Greenview Memorial Park. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Hughey Reynolds.Ruth was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Clyde; brother, Charles Keenum of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and sisters, Mary Morrison of Sheffield and Nell Johnstone of Atlanta, Ga.She is survived by her children, Charles C. and Joel R. Anderson of Florence and Janet Wiggins of Atlanta; one brother, Raymond Keenum of Florence; two sisters, Marcile Barksdale of Florence and Dorothy Mehas of Hamilton, Ohio; her grandchildren, Charlie Anderson of Knoxville, Tenn., Terry, Ashley, Joel II and Kristen Anderson of Florence, Clyde Anderson of Birmingham, Harold Anderson and Anderson Wingfield of Atlanta, and Catherine Wingfield of New York. Ruth was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren, Chase, Haley and Lauren of Knoxville, Carson, Bentley and Keeton of Florence, Ali Ruth, Olivia and Christian of Birmingham, and Harold Jr. and Taylor Claire of Tuscaloosa; and a number of nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be Frank Stockard, Marty Abroms, Tim Corley, Harrison Herron, Stan Keenum and James Mehas.Honorary pallbearers will be Henry King, Charles Peery, Joe Massenburg and Booker Beckwith.The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to her nurses and her doctor, Macon Landers, for their outstanding care during her final years.For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Florence Library Foundation in care of the Florence Library.Greenview Funeral Home of Florence is directing.
