HAMPSTEAD, Md. Ruth J. Smith, 85, of Murphy's Court Run, a former resident of Sand Lake, died on Sunday, November 20, 2005 at her residence after a long illness. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late George Earl and Harriet M. Hayner Bailey and wife of the late Peter Z. Smith. Ruth was a lifelong resident of Sand Lake and had moved to Hampstead in 1990. She was educated in the Averill Park schools and had been a factory manager for the former K. Beck Floral Products in Albany before retirement in 1975. Ruth was a member of the former Sand Lake Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Sand Lake Baptist Church. At the time of her death, she was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Hampstead. Ruth was the sister of the late Doris Gallant, Donald Bailey and Kendall Bailey. Survivors include two sons, David P. (Peggy) Smith of Valdosta, Ga. and Jeffrey A. (Bonnie) Smith of Hampstead; and four grandchildren. Services were private for the family.
