Ruth Hoffmeister Smith, 77, died Jan. 8, 2013. She was born in Canton, Ohio, and moved to Fort Pierce in 1951. She was the owner/operator of Loving Care Child Development Center. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church and Rock Road Ministries. Survivors include her sons, Julian David Smith Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska and Paul Andrew Smith of Port St. Lucie; daughters, Debra Lynn Thompson, Martha Marie Gates and Mary Elaine Logsdon, all of Fort Pierce; brother, Raymond Hoffmeister of Fort Pierce; sisters, Mary Kitzi of Fort Pierce, Patricia Freeman of Vero Beach and Kathy Eldridge of Merritt Island; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian David Smith Sr.; son, Daniel Smith; and brother, Charles Robert Hoffmeister II. Services: A gathering will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Jan. 13, with a service to follow at 6 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church, Fort Pierce. Arrangements are by Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service.
