BERNARDSTON, Mass. - Ruth H. Johnson, 86, of Northfield Road, Bernardston, died Friday, March 7, 2014, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Rutland, Vt., on January 15, 1928, the daughter of Clifford and Eureta (Flanders) Pratt. Ruth was educated in Mount Holly, Vt., schools and was a graduate of Black River High School, Ludlow, Vt., class of 1945. Early in life, she worked as a telephone operator for New England T&T in Mount Holly and Brattleboro, Vt. She was married on May 31, 1947, to Frederic Johnson in Mount Holly. She was a former member of the Mount Holly Grange, the Belmont Community Church and the Rebekahs in Mount Holly. In Bernardston, she was a member of the United Church of Bernardston, and its Women's Fellowship, and a member of the friends of the Mass. Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children. She loved her family, flower gardening, reading, music, dancing and traveling. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Fred; and her son, James W. Johnson and his wife Millicent of Mount Holly, Vt.; and a daughter, Rita Johnson of Bernardston, Mass. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ericka Smith and her husband Ryan, Eureta Biczko and her husband Eric, and Jeremiah Johnson; and her great-grandchildren, Amber, Dakota and James Biczko; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 14, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at the United Church of Bernardston. Rev. David Neil, interim pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Donations in her memory may be made to either The United Church of Bernardston, PO Box 503, or the Bernardston Fire Dept., 18 Church St., or the Bernardston Police Dept., 256 South St., all at Bernardston, MA 01337.
