1934-2014 OAKLAND - Ruth Grace Carter, 80, died Monday, September 1, 2014, at the Oak Grove Center in Waterville. She was born in Waterville on August 14, 1934, the daughter of James and Bessie (Cates) Mullen. Ruth was employed many years at the Fort Halifax Packing Company in Winslow and at Wyndotte Woolen Mill in Waterville. Ruth lived most of her life in Oakland. Besides her work and family, she enjoyed listening to music. She was predeceased by her husband Colon Carter, brothers, Herbert, Daniel, James, Alvah, Donald, and Frederick Mullen, and sister Helen Mullen, nephews David and Richard Mullen, and niece Edith Lambert. Surviving are a daughter Marion Nutter and husband William of Belgrade, stepsons Terrance Carter of Standish and Colon Carter of Gray, grandchildren Bobbie-Jo Main and husband Daniel of Albion, Michael Brown II of Augusta, Billei-Jean Nutter of Belgrade, and Becky Nutter and partner Gerry Bechard of Sidney, great-grandchildren Lelia Main, Isaac Main and Erika Brown. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Oak Grove Center for the excellent care they gave to Ruth. Private services will be held at the Lewis Cemetery in Oakland. Arrangements are by Wheeler Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Oakland.
