EWING, Ruth Marjorie Ruth passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011 with her loving family by her side following a brief illness. She will be sadly missed. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Gordon, (November 30th, 2010), sisters Muriel and Bernice, son-in-law Dave, and her parents Charles and Alma Turner. Ruth is lovingly remembered by her three daughters Patricia (Don), Kathleen and Barbara and her brother Fred. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Malia, Jesse (Erin), Tucker (Heather), Jason (Jamie), Derek, and Jennifer (Nick), great grandchildren Sara and David and many nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by her very close lifelong friend, Pat Woodbury. Ruth was born on July 31, 1924 in Vernon, BC where her parents had a fruit orchard. The family moved to Victoria, BC when she was a young child. She attended Victoria High and graduated in 1941. Ruth started work at Scot and Peden and later joined B.C. Electric where she met and married her husband, Gordon, in 1949. In 1953, the family moved from Victoria and made their home in North Vancouver. Ruth and Gordon moved to West Vancouver in 1978 where they enjoyed their retirement years. Ruth particularly enjoyed their annual vacations to Hawaii and Palm Springs. Ruth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is remembered for her warmth and kindness, quick wit, beautiful smile and her wonderful sense of humour. Ruth loved gardening, quilting and sewing and was a very talented homemaker. Throughout her life she had many friends. She particularly enjoyed her sewing club where her circle of friends met in their homes every month. She was also an active volunteer at her church. Ruth was an avid reader and was always interested in current events and enjoyed a lively debate. A Memorial Service will be held at West Vancouver United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Avenue, West Vancouver on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 1:00pm. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to BC Children's Hospital would be appreciated.
