Ruth Eleanor SmithBeloved mother and grandmother; 98 MELBOURNE, FL -- Ruth E. (Ricker) Smith, of Melbourne, FL, passed away peacefully in the company of her family on May 6th.She was born on August 6, 1914, a daughter of the late William and Irene (Emery) Ricker.She graduated from Leominster High School, and was a lifelong resident of Leominster, before retiring to Florida in 1982. She worked for the family business, Smith's Auto Service, and then as secretary of Pilgrim Congregational Church until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of Pilgrim Church and very active in many of their groups. Ruth was a longtime member of the Eastern Star and a Past Matron.Ruth's greatest pleasure was spending time with her family as often as possible and at weekly Sunday gatherings. She loved camping and took her grandchildren along on most trips. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, reading and cooking. She was a gentle lady with a kind and nurturing heart.Her husband, George W. Smith, who was her soul mate, passed away in 2001. May 6th would have been their 80th wedding anniversary. A beautiful reunion took place that morning where they could once again hold hands.She leaves behind her son, Douglas E. Smith and wife, Alice of Indialantic, FL; her grandsons, David Smith, James Smith, Douglas Smith and Derek Smith; granddaughters, Patricia Smith, Karen Evans and Barbara Smith; and great-grandsons, Steven Evans and Bobby Evans, Randy Smith, and Cody Smith; and great-granddaughter, Savahannah Smith along with two great-great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughter.She was predeceased by her oldest son, Richard A. Smith, and beloved brother, Frank Ricker. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Susan (Harper) Smith and former daughter-in-law, Catherine (David) Smith.SMITH -- A graveside memorial service will be held for both Ruth and her husband, George, at Forest Hill Cemetery in Fitchburg at 11:00 a.m. on September 13, 2013.
