Obituary of Ruth-Colvin Smith


SMITH Ruth Colvin Smith, 84, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at Carolinas Medical Center - Pineville in Charlotte, North Carolina. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 23 at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church. The family will receive visitors in the Fellowship Hall following the service. Born in Thomson, Georgia on February 6, 1923, Ruth spent most of her life in Jacksonville, Florida, attending public schools and graduating from Landon High School in 1940. She was very active in United Methodist Church activities in Wyckoff, New Jersey and Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. She is survived by a sister, Lucy O'Neal, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Asher; one daughter, Connie and her husband Charles Burgher and their sons, Travis and Sean; and three sons, Jim; Rick and his wife Dot and their daughter Allison; Rob and his wife Janet and their children Brandon, Ashley and her husband John Wallace. The family is deeply grateful to the staffs of CMC-P and Regency Retirement Village and to Katie Freeman for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Building Fund of South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, 8601 Bryant Farms Road, Charlotte, NC 28277-1615.
