Obituary of Ruth Carter


Athens - A Celebration of Life service for Ruth Virginia Carter will be held at Lanier Gardens, 801 Riverhill Drive, Athens, Georgia on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at 1:30 pm. Miss Carter died November 14, 2007.A native of Oglethorpe County, Miss Carter was a daughter of the late Marcus Herman and Margaret Gertrude Spence Carter. She was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. She was a dental hygienist. Miss Carter was an avid gardener and proud of her tomatoes and flowers which she graciously shared. She had several enjoyable trips abroad. Special joys for her were the young members of her family and her numerous friends she made during her 28 year residence at Lanier Gardens. Her friends and family remember fondly "Ruth's chair" in the sun room.Survivors include a niece, Janet Gregory, Athens; nieces and nephews Ken and Babs Carter, Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Dennis and Anne Marie Carter, Marietta; nephew Harold Hubert of Athens; brother-in-law Jake Guest; eleven great nieces and nephews and eleven great, great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Hubert Carter and her sisters Elizabeth Carter Yarnell and Frances Carter Guest, a niece Kay Yarnell Hubert and great niece and nephew Joy and Marcus Gregory.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lanier Gardens, 801 Riverhill Dr., Athens, GA 30606 in memory of Ruth Carter.Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.
