Ruth-Agnes Martin, born in 1920, spouse of John Martin, mother of Barry and Marlene, died on May 14, 2004. Please consult the obituary here:
Mrs. Ruth Agnes Heyden (née Martin) - May 31, 1920 - May 14, 2004 - Ruth passed away peacefully the evening Friday, May 14, 2004 to join her beloved husband of 50 years, John. Ruth was born in Debden, Saskatchewan, May 31, 1920. She is predeceased by her husband John Heyden on November 6, 1990, her grandson Todd Douglas-Olmstead, August 16, 1994 and son-in-law Ken Douglas, October 21, 1994. She is survived by her sister Mavis (Walter) Tipton, Lake Cowichan, brothers; George (Monique) Martin, Ron Martin, Victoria, Richard (Alma), North Battleford, SK, daughter Marlene Douglas, son Barry (Sylvia) Heyden, grandchildren; Karyn and Joanne Douglas, Christina (Bryan) Mock, Jon Heyden, great grandchildren Ashley, Chantelle, Travis Mock and Will Olmstead. Ruth met John at the wedding of Ruth’s brother to John’s sister and it was love at first sight. He fell in love with her striking red hair, her ready sense of humor and her spunk. These three traits remained with her for her whole life diminishing only in the last year after a severe case of pneumonia. They came to BC from Saskatchewan in the Spring of 1948 and settled in the Lake Cowichan area where Ruth remained until John passed on and she moved to Duncan. During her lifetime Ruth had the unique ability of always making good friends regardless of where she was living. Her passion was knitting, crocheting and needlepoint and she wasn’t happy until she had created an afghan for every member of her extended family who was getting married, and fancy blankets and outfits for every new baby that was born. Everyone who knew Ruth will remember how much she missed her John. We all take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with him and at peace. A Graveside Service will be held by the family at Mountain View Cemetery, Duncan, BC on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at 2:00 pm. The members of the family would like to thank the staff of the Chemainus Hospital, Cowichan Lodge and Cerwydden Care for their care and many kindnesses toward our mother, plus the doctors who were always there for her day or night.
