Obituary of Ruth A. Shaw Hodge


Ruth A. Shaw Hodge 1919 - 2012 FEEDING HILLS - Ruth A. Shaw Hodge, 92, of Feeding Hills and formerly a longtime Hartford Terrace, Springfield resident, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Heritage Hall South in Agawam. Born in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Elizabeth (Steele) Abbe. Ruth was eductaed in Springfield and following graduation from high school she worked at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. She was predeceased by her first husband, Howard Shaw in 1955 and later by her second husband, Stanley Hodge in 2007. Ruth was a member and former organist/choir director at the First Park Memorial Baptist Church, Springfield. She also had been staff organist at Dickinson-Streeter Funeral Home for many years. Ruth is survived by her two sons, David Shaw and his wife Donna, and James Shaw and his wife Betty all of Feeding Hills; her sister, Joan Stack of West Springfield; four grandchildren, Kelly, Karen, Ken and Dan; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Kasey. Ruth's funeral will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11 AM at the First Park Memorial Baptist Church, 4 Garfield St., Springfield. A calling hour will be held at church from 10 until 11 AM. Burial at Woodland Dell Cemetery, Wilbraham will be at the conveninece of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
