Ruby Walker, born in 1915, spouse of Wilbur Walker, died on November 25, 2011 at 96 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
Ruby (Laing) Walker 1915 2011 At the end of a long and well-lived life, Ruby passed away peacefully at the Langham Senior Citizen Home on November 25, 2011 at the age of 96 1/2 years. She will always be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her six children, Myrla (Jerry) Koenderink, Lorraine Walker (Al Hill), Ted (Sandra) Walker, Diane (Murray) Little, Doreen Walker (Jerry White), and Murray Walker (Jill Turner); eleven grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren, as well as her sister Gladys and many nieces and nephews. Ruby was predeceased by her husband Wilbur in 2001, and her brothers Les and Johnny. She was born in Aylesbury, SK and lived most of her early life in Saskatoon. She attended Westmount School, Bedford Road Collegiate, and then Normal School to become a teacher. She also attended the University of Saskatchewan. During the Depression, she taught at Dundurn, Fox Valley, and Queensland School south of Langham. The lovely teacher caught the eye of a handsome local farmer; they married in September 1939. Together they farmed and raised their family, participated in many community initiatives, and became faithful members of First Saskatchewan Lutheran Church. Ruby loved travelling, good food, music, sunrises and sunsets, flowers and people. She believed in helping others and even in her senior years made cookies for Ronald McDonald House and donated to charities. When Ruby and Wilbur moved from the farm to Saskatoon, they enjoyed more leisure time and social activities with their many friends. In 2000, they moved to Luther Heights, and after Wilbur passed away, Ruby continued to live there (and loved it) until 2007 when she moved to the Langham Senior Citizen Home. Although it wasn't easy for her to give up her independence, even at 92, she quickly grew to love the staff at the care home in Langham, and she made her room cozy with many family photos and mementos. This amazing lady has left a strong legacy for her family and friends and for all whose lives she touched a legacy of faith, hope, love and integrity. Her love for her family never failed. A time of remembrance will be held at the Saskatoon Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at First Saskatchewan Lutheran Church south of Langham on Saturday, December 3 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to First SK Lutheran Church, to the Langham Senior Citizen Home, or to the charity of your choice will be gratefully accepted. Condolences may be sent to mail@saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home at 244-5577.
