BROOKS Ruby May September 3, 1900 - April 26, 2009 Our beloved Ruby passed away peacefully in her 109th year. Born in Rat Portage (Kenora), Ont. Ruby was the 3rd eldest and last survivor of 17 children. Many years ago, while she was employed by the T. Eaton Co. in Winnipeg, she met and married a handsome veteran of the First World War, Harry Brooks. Ruby and Harry moved to Vancouver in 1923 and purchased their little "nest in the west" in the Dunbar area, residing there for many happy years. Ruby was predeceased by Harry, her loving husband of 52 years in 1975. Ruby is survived, and sadly missed by her devoted and loving daughter Bev Dickie (Al), grandson Glen, granddaughter Dee Dee Allen (Mike), great-granddaughter Taylor Brooks and several nieces and nephews. Ruby resided at Parkwood Manor for 16 years where she enjoyed the wonderful and caring companionship of the staff and her co-residents. Ruby loved her Bingo sessions at Parkwood and usually was the evening's winner. She was a very happy, considerate, fashion conscious person that always looked as though she had just stepped out of the pages of Vogue and she had a smile like a ray of sunshine. Ruby moved to the Belvedere Care Centre in early March where she very much appreciated the wonderful caring attention of the Nursing and Personal care staff there. A Graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Commemoration Section on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. Flowers gratefully declined in favour of donations to Canuck place.
