COLLINS Ruby Edna Collins, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away at McGraw Community Hospice January 5, 2009. She was born December 1, 1914 in Monroe, Union County, North Carolina and has lived in North Carolina and Jacksonville, Florida during her life time. She graduated from Prospect High School in 1932 in North Carolina where she was valedictorian of her class. Ruby retired from Riverside Hospital. She was a member of Lake Shore Baptist Church where she was honored as one of the oldest members over 50 years. She was a loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her mother Flonnie A. Griffin and father Roy Parks, husbands Jerry Markham and Riley B. Collins, sons Robert Neal Markham, Victor Kemp Markham, grandson R. Neal Markham, brothers Leonard D. Griffin and Donald E. Griffin. She will be greatly missed by her sisters, Alma V. Cloud and Jewel Ferrell Arnold, grandsons Victor Kemp Abel, Samuel N. Markham, Joseph B. Markham, Charles G. Markham, 7 great granddaughters, 2 great grandsons, 1 great, great granddaughter, several nieces and nephews. Ruby was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Jacksonville Jaguars. She belonged to the American Legion Lakeshore. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Edgewood Chapel. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour before the service.
