Long-time Niceville, Fla., resident Ruby C. Helms Brown, 95, died Nov. 7, 2011, at peace in her home.Ruby was born June 30, 1916, in Blue Springs, Covington County, Ala., to James Robert Helms and Audra Avinal Horne. The Bob Helms family moved to Niceville in 1922 with his parents, John William and Louisiana Lossie Patrick Helms.In her younger years, Ruby was active in her church in the Women's Missionary Circles and taught children in Sunday school and story hour. She was deeply committed to her family and will be remembered for her loving and welcoming spirit. Her door was always open to all.Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of almost 46 years, Jesse Willard Brown; one brother, William Robert "Willie" Helms (Willine); one sister, Mertie Opal Carter (Zed); and one infant granddaughter, Suzanne Michele Parker.Ruby is survived by two daughters, Audra Josephine "Jo" Nagel (Mel), and Billie Annette Burnette (John T.), both of Niceville; three brothers, Joel Astor "Jack" Helms (Gladys, Helen) of Niceville, Morris C. Helms (Carrol) of Portland, Fla., and Charles Patrick "Pat" Helms (Jean) of Niceville; two sisters, Claris Maureen Boles (Benton) of Kermit, Texas, and Mary "Dot" Reddick (Leslie) of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Nettie Mae Brown (Aaron) of Pensacola, Fla., and Louise Brown (Gerald) of Lake Butler, Fla.; five grandchildren, Robert Shane Parker (Janet) of Terre Haute, Ind., Beth A. Burnette Hagen (Chris) of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., Janet L. Nagel Alston (Lance) of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Marsha S. Nagel Kimberlin (Ronnie) of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Brad A. Burnette (Gerrianne) of Freeport; 10 great-grandchildren: Laren C. Hagen of Seattle, Cynthia L. Isaac (Jason) of Seattle, Nicholas L. DosSantos of Niceville, Brandon A. Burnette of Pensacola, Ashlee N. Brooks of DeFuniak Springs, Austin B. Burnette of Ponce de Leon, Taylor Giusti Ruppert of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Andrew Jesse Burnette of Freeport, Zoey A. Parker of Terre Haute, and Claire Hannah Marie Burnette of Freeport; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.Services will be held on Friday, Nov 11, at the First Baptist Church in Niceville. Visitation is at noon and a Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the Rocky Memorial Cemetery.
