Roy Thomas White, 72, of 57 Altamont Terrace Lane, died Saturday, June 1, 2002. Born in Lenoir, N.C., he was the son of the late Roy Thomas and Faye Floyd White. He was a senior pilot and retired as lieutenant colonel from the United States Air Force and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross through his service in Vietnam. Mr. White attended Davidson College where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He received his Bachelors Degree from Park College in Kansas and earned his Masters in Economics from East Michigan State University. He was a member of the Southern Seniors Golf Association, the South Carolina Seniors Golf Association and Retired Officers Association (TROA). He served as board member of Warren Wilson College, North Greenville College and The Greenville Choral. He was an Elder and member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Travelers Rest. Surviving are his wife, Nora Davis White; three daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Jim Herd of Simpsonville, Dolores and Roger Rabey of Huntington, W. Va., and Jewell Janovetz of Pleasanton, Calif.; a brother, Carlton White of Auburn, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Graham, Hannah and Emily Rabey, John and David Herd, Heather and Roy Hunter Janovetz. Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Travelers Rest, with Dr. Pam Patrick Cole officiating. A reception will be held at the church following the service.
