active in the Westminster community,construction co. & self storage co. owner; 62 WESTMINSTER -- Roy John Urban III, of West-minster, Massachusetts, 62, moved to his home in heaven on July 9, 2010. His long war with colon cancer finally took him but he fought every battle with courage and dignity.He leaves his wife, Carol (Sanders), and his daughters, Tonya J. (Urban) Hautala of Shrewsbury, and Melissa A. (Urban) Banks of Westminster. He also will be missed by his sons-in-law, James Hautala and Paul Banks; and his four grandchildren, Gabriella and Nathaniel Hautala and Zachary and Jacob Banks.He is also survived by his in-laws, Herbert and Lucille (Davis) Sanders of Ashby; and his sister, Kathy (Urban), and her husband, Robert Hoff of Saugerties, New York.Roy was born in Fitchburg on March 9, 1948 to Roy J. and Dorothy (Cleveland) Urban Jr. He grew up in the Whalom District of Lunenburg and graduated from Lunenburg High School in 1966. He attended Fitchburg State College.Roy worked 13 years at General Electric in Fitchburg, before starting his own excavation construction company, R. J. Urban Construction Company.In addition to his first love of digging dirt, he built and owned Rte. 140 Self Storage in Gardner. Until recently, he was a member of the Planning Board in Westminster and active in the First Congregational Church in town.Roy was very proud of his family and especially enjoyed spending time with them.Besides his family and friends, he spent time hunting, fishing, boating and gambling. His favorite hobby was watching CNBC, and playing the stock market. He was an avid collector of antiques and unusual and unique memorabilia. Everyone who knew Roy appreciated his sense of humor. For the last few years, he spent time in his winter home in Fort Myers Beach, Florida where he made new friends and loved the tropical sunshine and activities.URBAN -- The Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, (www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhomes.net) 123 Main Street, Westminster, MA is conducting the arrangements. Please join Roy's family for calling hours at the funeral home on Friday, July 16, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 P. M. A celebration of Roy's life will be at 10:00 A. M., on July 17, 2010 at the First Congregational Church of Westminster, 138 Main Street, Westminster, MA. Interment will be at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery following the service. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Contributions can be made in Roy's name to the Memorial Fund of the First Congregational Church, P. O. Box 417, Westminster, MA.
