Rose Evans Miller, 85, of 109 Jasper Drive, died Aug. 24, 2001, at her home, following a period of declining health. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Chester C. and Irene H. Evans. She was a graduate of Norwood High School and Bethesda School of Nursing. She received her R.N. Degree in 1937 and continued in her profession for 50 years. She was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class of the church since 1960. Mrs. Miller served as a church pianist and organist since she was 10 years old, including a period of four years as an organist in a small Japanese church in Misawa, Japan, during the postwar years. This resulted in lifelong Japanese friendships which were active until her death. She was predeceased by her husband of 24 years, Louis E. Miller. She will be deeply missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Joe Brock of the home; son, James B. Sawyer of Clinton; grandchildren, David Hall and wife, Beverly, of Surfside Beach, Kathy South-Byrd and husband, Grady, of Simpsonville, Lorrie Brock and her husband, Eddie, of Greenville, John Vigil and wife, Brenda of Anchorage, Alaska; great-grandchildren, Meagan and T. J. South, Jeremy and Kyle German, Ashley Barber, Rachel and Katherine Hall. Visitation will be today from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary Chapel with entombment at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
