->BINGHAM -- Ronald L. Chase, 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at his home in Bingham.He was born June 8, 1928, in Grand Lake Stream Township, the son of Avon H. Sr. and Josephine (Bacon) Chase. Ron grew up at The Pines in Grand Lake Stream Township, was educated at Grand Lake Elementary School and Bingham High School and served with the Army during the Korean War. Over the years Ron had been employed as a grader operator by Scott Paper Co., Bridge Construction Co., and Sargent Construction Co., and was considered a very talented top operator.He was a member of the Stanley Beane Post No. 99 American Legion of Bingham, and the Keystone Masonic Lodge of Solon.Ron was a private pilot. He and his wife Ellie enjoyed flying to different locations throughout the United States. A talented country music musician, he played in numerous country bands, specializing in the pedal steel guitar. His greatest love was for his family.He was predeceased by a son, Ronald L. Chase II; his stepmother, Addie Chase; two sisters, Jeannine and Clara Chase; and an aunt, Ruth Beech.He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Ellie Chase of Bingham; his children, Leonard A. Chase of Bath, Mike M. Chase of Elkhart, Ind., Jeanine R. Chase of Bingham, Christine E. Gettig of Skowhegan, Carrie J. Brown of Moscow, and Daniel Scott Chase of the Army, Ft. Campbell, Ky.; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Johnson and her husband, Dana, of Vassalboro; brothers, Jerome Chase and his wife, Joanne, of Veazie, and Avon H. "Buddy" Chase Jr. of Waterboro; and several nieces and nephews.Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St., Bingham. A celebration of Ron's life will be held at the American Legion Hall on Meadow Street in Bingham; the date and time will be announced.
