Brookline NH, avid musician; 66 BROOKLINE, New Hampshire -- Roger E. Smith, 66, formerly of Fitchburg, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in his home after an illness.Roger was born on May 31, 1944, son of the late Irving and E. Dorothy (Vaillancourt) Smith. He worked for the Anwelt Shoe Company and Horn Corp. for a number of years. He also worked at Star Cleaners in Fitchburg. Roger was an avid musician, showing his talents as a bassist and vocalist. He belonged to three local bands including the Smith Brothers Band, Terry and the Pirates, and Nero and the Unworthies. He also had a fondness for animals, and loved his dogs Brandy and Bruno, who were a part of his family for a number of years. He loved to make people laugh and tell jokes, but most of all he loved his family.Besides his loving wife Rita (Pirro) Smith of 45 years, he leaves two sons Ronald Thomas and his wife Sonya of Fitchburg and Richard A. Thomas of Boston, two daughters, Cynthia Leger and her husband Thomas of Fitchburg, and Julie Smith of Fitchburg, two sisters, Patricia Naylor of Leominster, and Beverly Smith of Fitchburg, two brothers, Walter Smith and his companion Nancy of Fitchburg, and Larry smith of Fitchburg, six grandchildren, Dylan Thomas Landry, Vanessa Leger, Felicia Smith, Patience Thomas, Valerie Leger, and Veronica Leger, one great-grandson, and his three dogs, Ginger, Lady, and Yogi.Roger was predeceased by his eight brothers.SMITH -- Calling hours will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd, on Tuesday June 15, 2010 from 7:00-9:00 P.M.
