AUGUSTA, Ga. - Funeral Services for Mr. Robert L. Shanks, 62, of Indian Cove Rd., Augusta, GA, who went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 27, 2011, will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 o'clock from the First Presbyterian Church of Augusta. Dr. George Robertson officiating. Interment in Sunset Hill Cemetery, North Augusta. Robert's love for the Lord, perpetual smile, and positive attitude were an encouragement to everyone who knew him. He invested his life well - constantly and lovingly pointing others toward Christ. He loved people and eagerly shared God's grace with anyone who crossed his path. We are reminded that Robert is now with Jesus hearing the words, Well done, My good and faithful servant (Matt. 25:21). Robert was a native of Newport News, Virginia, a former resident of Charleston, SC, having made Augusta his home for the past 35 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Augusta and retired from Westinghouse at the Savannah River Site. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Major James Lee Shanks and Elsie Shanks Hespenhide, his father-in-law, Irvin Schueler and brother-in-law, Donald G. Schueler. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Ashley Schueler Shanks, who was his best friend and the love of his life; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ryan and Kim Shanks, Gainesville, GA and Brad and Kimsey Shanks, Atlanta, GA. Pappy was particularly proud of his three grandchildren, Carina Shanks, Holden Shanks and Siler Jane Shanks. Additional survivors include two brothers and their wives, Mark and Stephanie Shanks, Newport News, VA and Mitchell and Janet Shanks, New Port Richey, FL; Ashley's mother, Martha Schueler Nana, North Augusta; Auntie Nancy Mitchell Nichols and family, Newport News, VA. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Lee Shanks, Mitchell Lee Shanks, Scott Carl Long, Steven Keith Michaels, Charles Michael Fitzhenry, Frank Alvis Stafford and James Larry Hornsby. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Wednesday evening from 5 until 7.
