->Robert S. Whittaker, of Brant Rock, died May 13, 2014, at the age of 80. Bob served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he graduated from the Norfolk Agricultural School and began his own landscaping company. Later he became the owner and administrator of the Whittaker Rest and Retirement Home in Weymouth, caring for others for many years. He enjoyed spending time in Nova Scotia and loved hunting, fishing, lobstering, and gardening. Twelve years ago, Bob became a double amputee, but that challenge did not deter him. His optimism, independent spirit and zest for life led him to enjoy all his days. Bob was the loving companion of 25 years to Deborah Gillis, and her children, Lori Hart and Thomas Gillis. He was the father of James R. and Patricia A. Whittaker and Matthew Borden; brother of David Whittaker of Falmouth, Thomas Whittaker of Lighthouse Point, Fla., and the late John Whittaker. Bob is also survived by several grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours were held Friday, May 16, 4-8 p.m. in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, at 809 Main Street (Rte. 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital), South Weymouth, followed by a service at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Cremation followed. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Given Limb Foundation, 2 Purchase Lane, Rye, NY 10580. See www.Keohane.com for directions and online condolences or call 781-335-0045.
