Robert Paul Smithof New Berlin, N.Y.Robert Paul Smith, 81, of New Berlin, died August 22, 2005 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. Born February 26, 1924 in New Berlin, N.Y. to Arthur and Alice Keech Smith. He was married to Pauline Holdridge Smith on June 14, 1953. Robert was raised in New Berlin and educated in New Berlin Central School and Mohawk Valley Community College. Survived by children, Sharlene Elizabeth Smith, Miami Beach, Fla.; and one granddaughter, Dana Renee Smith, Moscow, Pa. Predeceased by his four brothers, Harold, Bernard, Woodrow, Donald; and two sisters, Marion and Beatrice. Besides his wife, daughter and granddaughter he is survived by one sister, Pauline Roberts, Binghamton; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was retired as Chief from New York State Electric and Gas after 34 years of service. He was a former trustee for the village of New Berlin. Robert was a member of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Berlin where he served on the Vestry. He was a life member of the New Berlin Fish and Game Club, Boy Scouts of America-Troop 61, American Legion, and a charter member of the New Berlin Lions Club. Bob was a very active sportsman and enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips. A World War II Veteran, Bob served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946. Contributions in Bob's memory may be made to the New Berlin Emergency Squad or Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church.A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 25, 2005, at 1:00 at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Berlin. Father Charles Taylor will be officiating. Interment will be in Saint Andrew's Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.
