Robert-Nichols Johnson, born in 1921, spouse of Elizabeth-McBee Johnson, father of Ma and James W, died on January 28, 2010 at 89 years old.
JOHNSON Robert Nichols, 89, of Ridgewood, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, January 28, 2010, at the family home. Preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth McBee Johnson, Bob is survived by their son, Dr. James W. Johnson of Boston, MA; a daughter from an earlier marriage, Marcia C. Dimick of Leawood, KS; his brother, Edward Johnson, of Joplin, MO; nephews Paul Johnson of Atlanta, GA, and Bob Johnson of Greensboro, NC; and a granddaughter, Kathy Dimick, and great granddaughter, Scout Dimick, both of Leawood, KS. After graduating from the University of Missouri, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi, Bob served in the U.S. Navy for three years during WWII, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and was a member of the Naval Reserves for many years thereafter. Following active military service, Bob enjoyed a long and successful career in financial management with W.R. Grace, Borden, and Potters Industries. In retirement, Bob enthusiastically pursued his many interests: he was an exemplary father to his son; an avid bass fisherman, road-trip traveler, stock market expert, and rose gardener; and a dedicated fan of Mizzou and St. Louis sports teams. A parishioner of West Side Presbyterian Church, Bob was formerly a member of The Union League Club and The Ridgewood Country Club. Private services will be held at his home in Ridgewood and at the McBee family cemetery in Corryton, TN, where his ashes will be interred next to those of his beloved wife Elizabeth, with whom he shared a wonderful life.
