Robert M. Finn May 17, 1922 - February 4, 2009 NORWICH-Robert Matthew Finn, 86, of 370 Hamilton Ave., died at the Groton Regency Center on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 after a long battle with COPD. Robert was born in Noank, Connecticut on May 17, 1922 to Timothy and Anna Finn. A 1940 graduate of the Norwich Free Academy, he served his country honorably during the Second World War where he was a member of the United States Army stationed in the South Pacific. After his military service, Robert attended Providence College where he graduated with honors. Upon graduation, he attended graduate classes at Boston University before returning to Norwich and taking a job at Electric Boat. However, he is best know for the more than twenty years of service he put into various positions with the Norwich Public School System. An avid reader and a lover of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Notre Dame Football, he loved to talk politics and sports. Robert is predeceased by two children, his infant son Robert Jr. and his daughter Barbara Jean who died unexpectantly at the age of 28. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Jean K. Finn, his son Thomas and his wife Ellen Putz of Norwich, CT, his grandson William Howard and his wife Kari Howard and their son Logan of Norwich, CT, as well an extended family who loved him dearly. The funeral will assemble on Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at 8:00 a.m. at the Woyasz and Son Funeral Home, 141 Central Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Patrick in Norwich. Burial, with presentation of military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. at the funeral home.
