Obituary of Robert-L. Whitaker

WHITAKER, Robert L. Age 78, of Liberty St., Horseheads, passed away April 29, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Bob was born in Elmira, NY on Jan. 13, 1930, son to the late Lewis and Marjory (Jones) Whitaker. His surviving family includes his sons, Robert (Veronica Smith) Whitaker of Horseheads, NY, Brian (Suzan) Whitaker of East Corning, NY; grandchildren, Jessie and Jeremy; great-granddaughter, Hailey Nicole. Bob was predeceased by his brother, Wlm. Thomas Whitaker; and sister, Betty Peterson. He was a 36-year employee of Hardinge Inc. where he retired as a purchasing agent. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and a local member of the Horseheads American Legion Post #442. Bob was also an avid golfer and former bowler. He was member of the Horseheads Old Oak lodge #364 F & A.M. and member and past Secretary of Elmira Cashmere Grotto. Services with the Barber Funeral Home Horseheads will take place privately at the convenience of his family. Interment will also take place privately in Maple Grove Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
