Robert L. "Speedy" Cobb, 85, passed away May 16, 2010 in Pasadena, Texas, while visiting family. He was born in Jefferson City, Mo., on February 11, 1925 to Charles Lee and Anna Mae (Holiday) Cobb. He graduated from Central High School in 1943 and married Emma Belle (Throne) on November 28, 1946. Following two and half years of military service in the U.S. Army serving in World War II Pacific Theatre, he graduated from Draughn's Business College and retired from Reyco Manufacturing Industries after 38 years of employment. He was a member of Sunshine Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. After a brief time with the New York Yankees Farm Club, Robert "Speedy" Cobb returned to Springfield and enjoyed 35 plus years of playing and coaching softball for various local teams. Speedy was inducted into the Springfield Amateur Softball Assoc. Hall of Fame in 1977. Preceding him in death were his parents; son Steven Matthew Cobb, who passed away March 17, 2010; three brothers, Earl M., Maurice L. and Charles E. Cobb and sister, Catherine Rowe. Surviving him is his loving wife Emma; son, Robert Scott Cobb and wife Patti of Pasadena, Texas; daughter-in-law, Abbie Cobb of Eldon, Mo.; grandchildren, Ty Cobb and wife Cindy of Lee's Summit, Cayce Cobb Grote and husband Adam of Raymore, Brittni and Jackie Cobb of Pasadena, Texas; great grandchildren, Trezdon and Mackenzie Cobb and Maklin Grote; brother, Roy Cobb of Winder, Ga.; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be Friday, May 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., in Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel 5234 West State Hwy EE (Division). Services will be Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home. Interment will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be made to www. klingnerfuneralhome.com.
