Robert Carl Johnson passed into the presence of His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at his home in Ipswich surrounded by his family. He was born in Racine, Wisconsin on August 26, 1917, attended Wheaton College (IL), graduating in 1941 just prior to the start of World War II. He worked all through the war for Armour Pharmaceutical as a research chemist on a project for the military. After the war he continued to work for Armour for forty-two years, retiring in 1983. His work with Armour took him to Kankakee (Illinois), Phoenix (Arizona), Briarcliff Manor (New York). Upon retirement he moved with his wife Mary (nee Garfield) Johnson back to Phoenix until they moved to Ipswich to live with their daughter Meredith Joss. In addition to Meredith and her husband Rob, he is survived by his wife Mary of sixty-seven years, by a son, Bruce and wife Linda of Denver (Colorado) and a daughter Leslie Herr and her husband Craig of Joilet (Illinois), by eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. In their thirty-two years in Phoenix Bob and Mary attended Bethany Bible Church. A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church in Ipswich on Saturday, October 29, where they currently are members.
