ObituaryROBERT J. WHYTEHOLMES BEACH, FL - Robert J. Whyte, 80, of Holmes Beach, FL, died July 18, 2003 at home. Born in Ithaca, NY, Mr. Whyte moved to Manatee County, FL from Freeville, NY 18 years ago.He was the owner of R.J. Whyte & Sons Service Station in Freeville for 30 years. Bob served in the US Army Airborne as a paratrooper during WWII. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 1511 in Bradenton, FL, American Legion, Kirby Stewart Post 24, and was a Past Chief and life member of the W.B. Strong Volunteer Fire Co. in Freeville.Survivors include his wife, Monica; daughter, Jill (Dennis) Ferguson of Dryden; sons, Jack (Sheila Payne) and Jim (Sherry) of Freeville; a sister, Margaret Greenwood of Ithaca; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; a nephew, Arthur GreenwoodMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Perkins Funeral Home. Rev. Peter K. Hopper will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, and at a reception to follow at the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home, 2290 Dryden Rd., DrydenFriends are encouraged to attend the services and reception.
