AUGUSTA -- Robert J. Veilleux, 75, died unexpectedly Friday, April 30, 2010, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta Campus.He was born in Augusta on Dec. 27, 1934, a son of the late Emile J. and Laura M. (Gagne) Veilleux.Mr. Veilleux was a graduate of Cony High School, class of 1953.He had been employed for many years by the city of Augusta, the Sanitary District, and the state of Maine Bureau of Purchasing as supervisor of the Surplus Property Department. He had also worked as a mason in his own business, and after retirement, for the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office.Mr. Veilleux was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Eagles Club, Cobbossee Aerie; and a member of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, where he was on the Leadership Roll of Honor. He was a contributor to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, the U.S. Deputy Sheriffs Association and the Fund to Help Hospitalized Veterans Organization. Bob lived his life to the fullest, possessing a uniquely jovial, meticulous and passionate spirit that entertained everyone around him. He will be sorely missed by all who have known him. An avid drummer, he loved playing and listening to jazz music in his down time. Bob also enjoyed working on his renowned law enforcement patch collection. He was a strong proponent of the military and law enforcement and was a die-hard Yankees, Celtics and Giants fan. He loved spending time at "The Camp" at Lovejoy Pond, and though he always said, "I'm sooo busy," he enjoyed being with his wife, family, friends and his dog, Maggie.He is survived by his wife of 15 years and loving companion of 24 years, Yvette M. (Bellavance) Veilleux of Augusta; a son, Timothy J. Veilleux of Northborough, Mass.; two daughters, Debra A. Graham and her husband, Garry, of Leland, N.C., and Sherrie L. Newcombe and her husband, Glendon "Buz" Newcombe Jr. of Glenburn; a granddaughter, Jessica A. Bilodeau of South Burlington, Vt.; a brother, Norman R. Veilleux and his wife, Therese, of Augusta; a niece, Master Sgt. Diane Robinson of Augusta; a stepson, Richard J. Hutchinson and his wife, Kelly, of Winslow; a stepdaughter, L. Rhonda Hutchinson-Peaslee and her husband, Ronald J. Peaslee Sr., of Windsor; four stepgrandchildren, Ronald J. Peaslee Jr., Zachariah D. Peaslee, Jacob M. Hutchinson and Dylan T. Hutchinson; his first wife, Lucille D. (Theberge) Veilleux of Augusta; several cousins; and his beloved dog, Maggie.At his request, there will be no public visiting hours. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.
